I don’t know about the rest of you, but the words Vacation Bible School certainly conjure up many fond memories for me.  I remember the summers where my Methodist church joined with the local Congregational and Presbyterian churches and we shared the week together. Oh, how I loved being there with my childhood friends! I remember the summer when the theme was the “Blackfoot Indians” and how we dressed in costume each day and even wrote to native children on the reservation as pen pals.  I remember the crafts my mother called “keepers” that I found hidden away in our attic as I helped clean out the house so my parents could “downsize.”  I remember the songs, fun, and excitement.  But most of all I remember the stories…  the stories of our faith that have molded and shaped me from childhood on.

Much has changed through the years – we have added science to VBS and bFor use in printed publications, Right-Click on the filename below to download and choose Save Target As or Save Link Asegun to call games recreation.  We travel to centers instead of staying in self-contained classrooms.  We have even moved it from morning to evening following a free supper because so many of our leaders have daytime work outside the home and so many of our children are in daytime childcare.  But one thing has not changed in any way, and that is this!  Vacation Bible School for most children (and even the adults present) remains a primary way that they are shaped and molded by the stories of our faith that are told there as they live out these stories in powerful and fun-filled ways.  As lives have become more and more complicated and time seems to be our greatest area of poverty, Vacation Bible School still holds the keys to the faith.  I hope you will prayerfully consider making it a priority this summer in the lives of the children who you love.  Please sign them up now for the week of June 20-25th and help them continue on their journeys of faith.  Registration forms are found on the bulletin board on the Holt Street door or call me at 563-4301 and I will be happy to fill one out for you over the phone.

With you on the journey of faith formation as we continue to tell the story,  Jan
