On Thursday afternoons from 3-5 pm, a small group gathers together here in Room 212 to explore together “The Way of Discernment.”  We have learned so much from the reading, the exercises, and our shared conversations.  On a simple level, we now know the word discernment comes from the Latin discernere, meaning “to separate” and “to distinguish.” On a more complex level, the word discernment at its root and foundation calls to us through the “desire to choose the right path, to gain clarity about our God-given purpose and what we can offer to the world around us.”  “To align ourselves ever more closely with God’s over-arching purpose, to grow steadily in the world-healing ways of Jesus – that is the life-giving aim of discernment.”  To do this, we use the “fruits” and our “core identity” as touchstones or reference points.

We can discern our path on the journey both as individuals or as this particular community of God’s people called Mebane United Methodist Church.  I invite you to spend time in God’s presence over this month of March discovering who you are by looking directly at yourself.  Once you have come to know and understand that you are truly a beloved child of God, ask yourself “where is it I feel the most alive in God?  What makes your toes tap and your life sing?”  Is it teaching, singing, sewing, or smiling at a new face?  Whatever you discover or discern is your own unique gift/gifts from God, give me a quick call (563-4301) or send an email (Jan@mebaneumc.com) and we will discern together how God would have you use those serving God’s people.

With you on the journey of
discerning who I am and how God will use me,

Jan

JYF Lock-In
MARCH 26
Drop Off at 8:00 pm
Pick Up at 7:30 am

The JYF Lock in will be Friday, March 26th.  Drop off at 8:00 pm.  Pick up on Saturday morning 7:30 am - SHARP - I am not as young as I used to be.  There will be lots of games, movies, fellowship, worship, and fun.  (Also, there will be bonding among the kids - but don't tell them that, they would deny it anyway).  Mr Dan will be on hand all night for crowd control, but we could still use one more gullible adult to chaperone.  Let me know if you are up to it.  You may need to brush up on your karaoke, X-box, cosmetology, psychology, and dancing skills.  And a good set of earplugs wouldn't hurt.

MARCH 7

Need a break from hectic Sunday mornings?  Can't decide what to wear on Sunday morning, let alone what to dress your kids in?  No time to feed them without resorting to pop tarts?  Well here's your big chance!  Sunday March 7 will be Sunday School Pajama Party Breakfast Day for all Children's Sunday School classes ages pre-school through fifth grade!  Just roll those little lambs out of bed and send them to Sunday School in their PJ's!  A healthy breakfast will be provided while they lounge in their PJ's and learn about Jesus' Love.  Breakfast starts at 9:45 am.
